When her best friend annuonces, "I want a baby!", Gabby chokes on her soda. No surprise, since the friends are both pushing forty and have previously decided together that they were not cut out for motherhood. But DeeDee has changed her mind, and the biological clock is running out of batteries. Over the next several years, the lives of these two women and their husbands and their mothers become focused on one thing - DeeDee's battle with infertility.
I found the journey to pregnancy captivating, maybe because a very dear woman close to me recently went through the same thing. Or maybe it's because the author described the absolute obsession on eggs and ovulation and basil temperatures so believably. I won't give anything away when I tell you that DeeDee does end up giving birth -- that's on the back cover. There are no surprises in this story. The joy of this book is in the journey, in living through the experience with the characters.
But don't make the mistake of thinking this is a story about getting pregnant. It isn't. Every Good & Perfect Gift is a story about relationships. It's full of nostalgia, of striving to overcome obstacles, of shared laughter and tears. And I warn you - there are plenty of tears. What happens to DeeDee and Gabby and the people who love them is not a 'happily ever after' ending. In fact, it's heartwrenching. But if you like stories full of faith and love, and with vivid characters, this is one you won't want to miss.
