When I was expecting my first baby--which was a long time ago--I read every parenting book I could get my hands on. I lived a thousand miles away from my family and didn't have any friends with kids, so I was desperate for an instruction manual, especially for the baby's first year. I sure do wish Trish Berg had written this book back then! Rattled is a straightforward book about parenting your baby. It's full of humor and advice and biblical encouragement. The subtitle says it all: Surviving Your Baby's First Year Without Losing Your Cool.
Every chapter focuses on a different aspect of mothering for new moms, from pregnancy to sleeplessness, from dealing with the in-laws to maintaining your physical and spiritual life. (I love the chapter that defines the way we develop our momhood and become "Extreme Alien Moms.") At the end of every chapter Trish has included a "tool kit" of advice, quotes from moms who've been there, devotions for moms, even study questions. And sprinkled throughout is the overwhelming joy of becoming a mom from a mother who obviously loves her role.
Mother's Day is approaching, and this book would be a terrific gift to any Christian mom-to-be. In fact, it would be a great gift at any time of the year. Stop by your local bookstore and pick up a copy, or ask them to order it if they've sold out. If you buy online click here.
By the way, I'm going to stop saying I don't read nonfiction since this is the third NF book I've read in the past couple of weeks!
